LatchKey, Born Kevin E.M. Martin, is a hip-hop and R&B songwriter and recording artist hailing from Shaker Heights, OH. LatchKey’s stage name is a nod to his original inspiration for writing: as a latchkey kid, often home alone with nobody to talk to, he took pen to paper from an early age as a medium of self-expression. LatchKey’s vocal versatility is evident in his songs, as he seamlessly transitions from the wordplay of uptempo verses into soulful, ear-catching hooks. His music explores issues in daily life and in relationships, finding humor, heartbreak, and everything in between.
Latchkey cites Cal Scruby, Fabolous, Lupe Fiasco and Kid Cudi as artists who have directly influenced his music. On a larger scale, his influences are extensive and eclectic, and include Sam Cooke, Led Zeppelin, Matt & Kim, and Little Brother, among others. Latchkey has worked with Cleveland-area producers Ray Coupe and M Stacks, and he has previously released a mixtape entitled “Latch Key Chronicles Pt. 1,” under the name Kemmistry (available on datpiff.com, produced by L_E_IT, Ray Coupe, and DJ Dubstronox).
